Story and Sprout Young Enterprise Market

Members of this year's entrants to the Young Enterprise business entrepreneurship education programme had a great time this week watching their sales rocket at the YE St Nicholas Market event.

Young Enterprise (YE) is a UK-based charity that focuses on providing young people with practical business and entrepreneurship education. They offer a range of  initiatives designed to help students develop essential skills such as teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and financial literacy. The YE programme involves setting up and running a real business, giving participants hands-on experience in the world of business.

The team, Story and Sprout came up with the idea of a children's picture book that raised awareness of climate change and the impact of humans on the natural environment. Competing against several other local schools, their picture books were sold together with seeds that can be planted as a fantastic learning opportunity for children and their families. The day gave the team the opportunity to liaise with the public and set out a shop to entice and encourage buyers.

The team sold all of their stock, made approximately £130 in profit and were awarded a joint prize for Best Customer Service at the event.

Mrs Sims, Head of Business Studies sais "I am so very proud of the students. They worked incredibly hard to collate a picture book that was educational, original and of a high quality. The team carried out lots of market research beforehand to check that their product was attractive and well priced. They are destined to do great things in business in the future!".
